Catherine Elizabeth Wilson


Elizabeth received her B.A., in Cultural Anthropology and her M.A. in Medical Anthropology at the University of Calgary and at the Linacre College, in Oxford, England, followed by a Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology at the University of Manitoba.  She completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship with the Canadian Institute of Health Research and the Segal Fellowship for research.

In addition to her Chinese and Aboriginal-based research in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, the focus of much of her research has been on the role of cultural interactions between wellness and societal perceptions of illness.  Her M.A. research was completed in southern China under the auspices of Sun Yet Sen Medical University.  Prior to her stay in China, she had studied Chinese health practices and societal perceptions of the value of various types of remedies and diverse methods of easing pain and illness.
