- Inaugural Transitional Council Meeting Highlights -

The Transitional Council held its first public meeting on June 26 and 27, 2008.

Greetings

The Hon. Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Bas Balkissoon, Parliamentary Assistant to the Hon. David Caplan, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and David Zimmer, Parliamentary Assistant to the Attorney General attended and brought greetings to the transitional Council.

Also present were Dr. Catherine Yarrow, President of the Federation of Health Regulatory Colleges of Ontario and Registrar of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, Fran Richardson, Registrar of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, Deanna Williams, Registrar of the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Jo-Ann Wilson, Registrar of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, Bridie O’Connell, Executive Administrator of the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy – Naturopathy, and Belinda Clarke and Marianne Park, Council members of the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy – Naturopathy.

Approval of the First By-Law

The first by-law of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario was approved. The by-law sets out the administration and internal operations of the College.

Appointment of Legal Counsel

Council approved the appointment of Steinecke Maciura LeBlanc as general counsel.

Appointment of External Chair

Council authorized the Registrar to search for a suitable candidate to serve as an appointed chair to preside at Council meetings in accordance with section 85 of the by-laws of the College.

Appointment of Bank Signing Authority

Council approved the first signing officers: Finance Manager and Director of Corporate Affairs, Health Force Ontario, the Registrar, President, Vice-President and the Chair of the Finance Committee of the College.

Appointment of Auditors

Council approved appointment of KPMG, auditors of Health Force Ontario, as auditors of the College for the first year of operation.

Overview of Activities

Council noted the activities and issues that must be addressed before registration of members can take place. Council and its Committees will work fervently to study and develop entry-to-practice requirements, grandparenting requirements, practice standards and professional conducts in the next two years. Broad consultation of stakeholders will then follow as regulations are being drafted for submission to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
