The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) is subject to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, (RHPA), the Health Professions Procedural Code, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006 and some aspects of the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004. It is obligated to maintain privacy and confidentiality of information that it receives or creates in the course of fulfilling its mandate to regulate the profession in the public interest.
Persons who are employed, retained or appointed for the purposes of carrying out the regulatory functions of the CTCMPAO are required to comply with section 36 of the RHPA to keep confidential all information that comes to their knowledge. Breaching the provisions of section 36 can lead to the imposition of fines of up to $25,000.00 as set out in the RHPA.
