Increase to Pan-Canadian Examinations Fees
The College has been advised by the Canadian Alliance of Regulatory Bodies of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists (CARB-TCMPA) that a 10% fee increase will apply to the Pan-Canadian Examinations for TCM and Acupuncture (PCE) in 2021. This increase follows an in-depth review and analysis of CARB-TCMPA’s budget, available resources, and transition to two exam administrations per year.
PCE fees have always been calculated with a view to cost recovery only. That is, they are not and have not been viewed by CARB-TCMPA as an opportunity to generate a profit. They are only intended to cover the development and administration of the exams as well as the operations of the organization in order to support the ongoing maintenance of the PCE.
Although the College collects the examination fees on behalf of CARB-TCMPA, CARB-TCMPA is responsible for the administration of the PCE. The College appreciates that PCE fees are kept as low as possible to not create a financial barrier for candidates and ensure continued access to the profession in Ontario.
April 2021 Pan-Canadian Examinations
In response to the challenges posed by COVID-19, and in consultation with the provincial regulatory bodies and Yardstick Assessment Strategies, CARB-TCMPA decided to continue deliver the PCE using an online proctored format in April 2021. This will allow candidates to complete the exam remotely.
The College Registration Committee has agreed to extend the provisional exemption to allow students whose clinical training is delayed because of COVID-19 to write the Pan-Canadian Examinations in April 2021. The exemption does not apply to the supervised clinical training requirement, which is required to obtain a General Class certificate.
The April 2021 Pan-Canadian examinations application will be available on the College website starting the week of December 1, 2020. Applicants will have until January 14, 2021 to complete their applications. All applicants are advised to have all the required supporting documentation ready in advance of submitting their applications.
