CTCMPAO V. Yang

On January 20, 2015, the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (the “College”) obtained an Order from The Honourable Mr. Justice Spence of the Superior Court of Justice pursuant to section 87 of the Health Professions Procedural Code prohibiting Ms. Soon Ryol Yang from contravening the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act. Ms. Yang is not a registered member of the College.

The Order prohibits Ms. Yang from engaging in controlled acts reserved for members of the College including performing acupuncture and communicating a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis.

The Order further prohibits Ms. Yang from holding herself out as a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner or acupuncturist, and from using the title “Doctor” in conjunction with the provision of health care services in Ontario.

This Order demonstrates the College’s ongoing commitment to the regulation of the profession in the public interest. Ensuring only registered members of the College are performing regulated acts on the public is an important component of the College’s public safety mandate.
