On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health issued Directive 2 for Health Care Providers.
This directive currently requires hospitals to cease all non-urgent or non-emergent surgeries or procedures. Furthermore, health care providers practicing outside of a hospital must cease all non-urgent or non-emergent surgeries or procedures if those procedures include any of the following:
- Surgical nursing support;
- General anesthesia health human resources; or
- The procedure carries a risk of resulting in the use of emergency medical services or other hospital services due to serious intra-operative or post-operative complications.
If your practice does not include any of the above, your practice remains unaffected at this time. For more information, the Ministry of Health has published a Q and A for Directive 2. Please also visit our COVID-19 webpage for more COVID-19 information and resources.
The College continues to monitor the situation and will update our guidance as necessary.
