On May 1, 2016, the Interim Registrar and CEO, Mr. Allan Mak sent out notices to the membership calling a general election to elect professional members to serve on the Council of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario for all districts to be held on August 4, 2016.
Nomination packages were mailed to the membership with a deadline to submit their nomination packages by June 20, 2016.
The number of members that shall be elected to each of the districts is set out in section. 30 of the College by-law as follows:
- District 1 – 2 members
- District 2 – 1 member
- District 3 – 3 members
- District 4 – 2 members
- District 5 – 1 member
Due to the nominations received by the Interim Registrar and CEO for each of the districts, an election will not be required on August 4, 2016. Below are the results of the 2016 Professional member Council elections from each electoral district.
Electoral District #1 - North East Region (for 2016-2017):
In accordance with the By-laws, two Members may be elected from this District. The Interim Registrar and CEO received one nomination before the June 20th, 2016 deadline. However, the candidate withdrew their nomination form, leaving no available nominations for this election.
On July 11, 2016, Council decided not to proceed with a by-election and will leave the positions vacant, as the terms for this district will be up for election in less than 12 months, as per section 58 (1) of the College’s by-law.
Electoral District #2 – Central East Region (for 2016-2017):
As a result of the call for nominations, the Interim Registrar and CEO only received one nomination for this district with one position available. As per section 43 of the College by-law, the Interim Registrar and CEO declares that the following candidate is elected by acclamation:
- Ms. Christine Lang, R. TCMP
Electoral District #3 – Central Region (for 2016-2018):
As a result of the call for nominations, the Interim Registrar and CEO only received three nominations for three available positions. As per section 43 of the College by-law, the Interim Registrar and CEO declares that the following candidates are elected by acclamation:
- Mr. Terry Wai Tin Hui, R. TCMP
- Mr. Yuqi Yang, R. TCMP
- Ms. Feng Li Huang, R. TCMP
District #4 – Central West Region (for 2016-2019):
As a result of the call for nominations, the Interim Registrar and CEO only received two nominations for two available positions. As per section 43 of the College by-law, the Interim Registrar and CEO declares that the following candidates are elected by acclamation:
- Ms. Christine Kit Yee Fung, R. TCMP
- Mr. Ming C. Cha, R. TCMP
Electoral District 5 – West Region (for 2016-2019)
As a result of the call for nominations, the Interim Registrar and CEO only received one nomination for one available position. As per section 43 of the College by-law, the Interim Registrar and CEO declares that the following candidates are elected by acclamation:
