Council Training

On June 15, 2022, Council members received virtual training from Mr. Richard Steinecke of Steinecke Maciura LeBlanc and professional members of Council.

Mr. Steinecke educated Council members on the unique roles of the board, Council and committee chairs, and the Registrar & CEO. Using excerpts from the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers’ (OCSWSSW) governance report, he spoke about the purpose and concept of governance, the definition of public interest, and policy making. Council members were reminded of the importance of fiduciary obligations, conflicts of interest, separation of duties and qualities such as diligence and respect. They applied their learning by participating in poll questions that encouraged critical thinking.

A presentation on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was provided by three professional Council members, Joanne Pritchard-Sobhani, Ming Cha, and Xianmin Yu. The presentation provided an introduction on the scope of practice and definition of TCM.

We thank our guest speakers for their informative presentations. The College is committed to good governance which is essential for meeting its public interest mandate. We will continue to look for opportunities to strengthen the education and development of Council members.
