On October 3, 2017, the College successfully obtained a permanent injunction from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice; pursuant to section 87 of the Health Professions Procedural Code for contravening the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006.
Ms. Lingli Wang is not a registered member of the College.
The Order made by the Honourable Justice Archibald confirms that Ms. Wang had violated the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006. Ms. Wang is prohibited from engaging in controlled acts reserved for members of the College including performing acupuncture and communicating a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis. The Order further prohibits Ms. Wang from holding herself out as a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (TCMP) as well as an Acupuncturist (Ac).
The Court also ordered that Ms. Wang pay $6,000 in costs to the College.
This Order demonstrates the College’s ongoing commitment to the regulation of the profession in the public interest. Ensuring only registered members of the College are performing regulated acts on the public is an important component of the College’s public safety mandate.
